Rome (Fides Service) - A FUTURE KING
The Patriarch Jacob, son of Isaac, son of Abraham blesses his children before he dies. To Juda, his fourth son he says: « The sceptre shall not pass from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until tribute be brought him and the peoples render him obedience (Genesis, 49, 10).
David, his descendant, receives the royal anointing from the hands of the prophet Samuel (1 Samuel 16, 13), and from the Prophet Nathan he receives God’s promise : « … I shall appoint your heir, your own son to succeed you and I shall make his sovereignty secure…and I shall make his royal throne secure for ever… Your dynasty and your sovereignty will ever stand firm before me and your throne be for ever secure. » (2 Samuel 7, 12.13.16).
Luke (1, 26-31), annunciation to Mary : « … The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David; he will rule over the House of Jacob for ever and his reign will have no end. (J.M.) (Fides Service, 12 December 2006)
