Beijing (Fides Service) - As the first anniversary of the death of Pope John Paul II approaches Chinese Catholics like those all over the world remember this beloved Father with prayers and gratitude. To mark the anniversary organised Catholics in China will take part in special prayers and Masses… one priest in Beijing who despite the difficulties involved managed to travel to Rome attend the late Pope’s funeral and then returned to share his experience with his people said: “We still feel the loss of John Paul II, like orphans. We remember his spirit of dialogue, understanding for other religions and above all the understanding and sensitivity with which he treated the Church in China. Every gesture of the late Pope was motivated by his love for 16 million Chinese Catholics, concern for pastoral care and evangelisation. We are certain of his protection and that one day soon the Church in China will see her hopes crowned.” (Agenzia Fides 29/03/2006 Righe: 15 Parole: 190)
