El Paso (Agenzia Fides) - Today, April 18, the Supreme Court of the United States will listen to the presentation of the initiatives proposed by President Obama, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) with respect to the issue of immigration in the country. In conjunction with this event, dozens of families from El Paso and southern New Mexico will gather in front of the Federal Court House in El Paso to show their support for the President’s action.
The "Border Network for Human Rights", together with members of the DACA and DAPA, with this peaceful demonstration wants to send a strong message in defense of the initiatives on immigration and urge judges of the Supreme Court and other political leaders to find a permanent solution.
The note sent to Fides by the "Border Network for Human Rights" states: "We need a global immigration reform that provides a path to citizenship for 11 million undocumented families who already live and work in the United States" ( see Fides 08/02/2016). (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 18/04/2016)
