Monday, 26 October 2009

Rome (Agenzia Fides) – The Pontifical University of the Holy Cross has signed an accord with the National Chengchi University of Taiwan, one of the most prestigious research institutes in the country, in order to promote a student and teacher exchange program for collaboration in various research projects of the two universities. The National Chengchi University was founded in 1927 and has nearly 16,000 students from all over the world. The initiative is part of a larger global collaboration program between Asia and the Western World, to encourage a cultural and intellectual exchange among students from across the world. The signing of the accord, on October 21, was also attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of China to the Holy See, Wang Larry Yu-Yuan.
According to the Rector of the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, Professor Luis Romera, “I think for a student from Asia, specifically from China, coming to Rome would help them open up their reality not just to Europe, but to the world.” With this accord, the students will be able to get to know “an ancient culture and be enriched by experiences that help us to understand ourselves as human beings.”
For the representative of the National Chengchi University of Taiwan, Professor Wei-Wen Chung, the project begun with the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross is the start of a new future for students from both schools, which will allow them to live “in a very different cultural environment” and benefit in “their own formation and widening their horizons.” (SL) (Agenzia Fides 26/10/2009)
