Tuesday, 20 October 2009

Warsaw (Agenzia Fides) - “The missionary animation and formation of the People of God are duties of the Church, which is by her very nature missionary. And this is the aim of our work here in Poland.” This is what Agenzia Fides learned from Monsignor Jan Piotrowski, National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Poland, describing the animation of this missionary month. World Mission Sunday is one of the special opportunities for missionary animation carried out by the Pontifical Mission Societies, which this year chose the them “That they may have life.” The dossier, statement, and DVD of the PMS were used for creating missionary awareness on World Mission Sunday, as well as the week leading up to it, called “Missionary Week.”
The PMS National Director of Poland also highlighted the fact that the webpage (www.czasmisji.pl) has been renewed in its graphic design for the occasion, to help contribute to missionary animation and spreading this message and its challenges, especially to the youth. The press conference held on October 12, attended by missionaries from Kenya and Ethiopia, offered a global vision of the needs of the younger Churches in different continents, especially in Africa. On October 18, World Mission Sunday, the Mass was presided by Bishop Wiktor Skworc, President of the Bishops' Committee for the Missions, and was aired on national radio. “The animators of the PMS National Office have organized various encounters throughout Poland during the month of October, accompanied by the missionary saints Saint Bruno de Kwerfurt, Saint Damien de Veuster, Saint Therese of Lisieux, and Blessed Maria Teresa Ledochowska, Patroness of the Missionary Cooperation of the Church in Poland,” Msgr. Piotrowski concluded. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 20/10/2009)
