OCEANIA/AUSTRALIA - A “map” of religious life in Australia, to strengthen the mission

Tuesday, 22 September 2009

Sydney (Agenzia Fides) – Catholic Religious Australia, an organization that includes representatives of all the Catholic religious institutions present in Australia, has done a study to get a concrete idea of religious life in Australia.
“It is a unique opportunity to show the image, history, and essential traits of the religious life at the beginning of the 21st century,” Sr. Clare Condon, President of the organization said, given that the most recent facts date back to over 30 years ago.
According to information sent to Agenzia Fides, every masculine and feminine congregation has been asked to contribute to a dossier entitled “2009 Report on Religious Life in Australia,” which will be available for downloading of the Internet. The document will offer all the needed information as to the number of members, location, activity, and pastoral service carried out by the consecrated who live on Australian land.
The study is meant to reflect on the present role of the religious in Australia, so as to relaunch their activity within the Church.
Religious in Australia recently launched a new website and electronic bulletin called “Pathways,” which gives an inside glimpse into their life and activity every month. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 22/09/2009)
