Friday, 12 June 2009

Cairo (Agenzia Fides) – Today, June 12, the Latin Basilica of Our Lady of Heliopolis will hold a free concert, open to the general public.
The “Celebration Choir and Orchestra” will perform Schubert's “Stabat Mater,” with the German text by F.G. Klopstock. The Conductor is Nayer Nagui and the soloists are: Mona Rafla (soprano), George Wanis (tenor) e Reda Rafla (bass).
The performance will also take place in the Opera Theater, also featuring free entrance. This is not the first time that opera works based on Christian texts are performed in public in Egypt, however previously, they were always held in the Christmas Season. “This is truly the first time that an event of this kind, with such a wide-scale promotion, is held outside of the Season,” local Church sources told Fides.
