EUROPE/SPAIN - Launching of “Madrid Live,” with organizing WYD 2011 among top priorities

Friday, 6 March 2009

Madrid (Agenzia Fides) – The “Madrid Live” Foundation was officially established yesterday, March 5, 2009, in Madrid. Their organizers mentioned spirituality as an essential element for reviving Spanish society and the need to return to a grassroots morality to find solutions to the economic crisis. The act of establishment of Madrid Live took place in the Residence of Cardinal Antonio Maria Rouco Varela, who has agreed to serve as the President of Honor of the Foundation, in Madrid. It is formed by various social and economic figures of the country, and presided by Iñigo de Oriol.
As the promoters explained, the name “Madrid Vivo” transmits the Foundation's mission to contribute in making Spain's capital city a city with values. Thus, they address believers and non-believers alike who share this interest in promoting human dignity and going beyond economic materialism.
The first main task of the Foundation will involve its collaboration in planning World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid. They will begin by visiting a series of institutions, to involve both social and cultural groups in society. The second stage will involve the formation of a civil platform, representative of all the sectors of Madrid's population, which will be presented in an official act to be held this coming September.
