VATICAN - “The Universality of Beauty: a comparison between aesthetics and ethics,” theme for the 13th Public Conference for the Pontifical Academies, on November 25

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – The 13th Public Conference for the Pontifical Academies, organized by the Pontifical Council for Culture and the Pontifical Academies coordinated by the Dicastery, will be held on Tuesday, November 25, at 10:30am, in the Aula Magna of the Palace located at via della Conciliazione, 5 (the via dell'Ospedale entrance). It is an important moment for the Academies to come together, as well as for the presentation of an award from the Holy Father given to young students, artists, or institutions that have distinguished themselves in the promotion of Christian humanism.
The Public Conference 2008 is organized by the Pontifical Academy of Fine Arts and Letters “Virtuosi al Pantheon”, and its theme will be: “The Universality of Beauty: a comparison between aesthetics and ethics.” The program is organized as follows: an opening address by Archbishop Gianfranco Ravasi, President of the Pontifical Council for Culture and the Council for the Coordination of the Pontifical Academies. This address will be followed by a speech given by Prof. Vitaliano Tiberia, President of the Pontifical Academy of Fine Arts Letters “Virtuosi al Pantheon,” on “Aesthetics and Ethics: a reflection on the universality of beauty.” Then, there will be a talk given by Director Flavio Colusso of the Pontifical Academy of Fine Arts Letters “Virtuosi al Pantheon,” on “Music and prayer: the work of the Oratory yesterday and today.” A Message from the Holy Father Benedict XVI is scheduled to be read. Following this, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Vatican Secretary of State, will present the Pontifical Academies' Award. In between the talks, there will be musical pieces performed by the “Cappella Musicale Theatina,” directed by Flavio Colusso. (S.L.) (Agenzia Fides 18/11/2008)
