Friday, 5 September 2008

Tai Yuan (Agenzia Fides) – The Congregation of Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows of the Diocese of Tai Yuan (Province of Shan Xi), will celebrate the feast of their Patroness, Our Lady of Sorrows, on September 15. A ceremony was held on September 2 this year, presided by Bishop Li Jian Tang of Tai Juan, in which 6 of their Sisters made their perpetual vows. Over 40 priests concelebrated the Mass. Thousands of faithful – friends and family – along with 26 Sisters of the Congregation joined in the celebration, in which the 6 sisters professed their perpetual Poverty, Chastity, and Obedience. After over 10 years in formation, they reaffirmed their desire to respond to the Lord’s call to dedicate their lives to the Gospel and the missions.
The Diocese of Tai Yuan, in the Province of Shan Xi, is a Franciscan mission. One hundred years ago, 7 religious sisters of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady of Sorrows carried out an arduous service in trying to sow the seeds of faith in this land. A century later, the Diocesan Congregation of Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows has inherited the mission, watering that seed that has sprouted and gathering the fruits of their evangelization effort, especially in the area of pastoral activity and social services.
