EUROPE/SPAIN - The Family and Human Dignity Association is formed, to promote the protection of human rights, especially the defense of human life and the family based on marriage between a man and a woman

Wednesday, 2 July 2008

Madrid (Agenzia Fides) - Yesterday, July 1, the Spanish association “Familia y Dignidad Humana” (Family and Human Dignity) officially began, made up of various members of Parliament and civil society working in defense of life and the family. The governing body is formed by President Julio Iglesias de Ussel, Vice-President Eugenio Nasarre, and Secretary Luis Peral.
The recently established association seeks to promote the protection of human rights, especially “the defense of life from conception until natural death, the family based upon the marriage of a man and a woman, and rights for children and minors.” All these are rooted in founding principles among which are (according to the statutes) the conviction that human life begins at conception and that, as such, it should be legally ethically, and socially protected; the anthropological value of marriage between a man and a woman, guarantor of the transmission of life; the vital importance that children and minors have; and parents’ right to freely decide on the education of their children.
Following the election of their Board of Directors, several initial decisions were made by the association’s assembly. Among them are the following: remain faithful to the “World Action of Parliamentary Members and Governors for Life and the Family,” drafted in Santiago de Chile in early November of 2007 by representatives of 18 countries (see Fides 13/11/2007); offer full support of the organization and development of the 2nd World Congress of the “World Action of Parliamentary Members and Governors for Life and the Family,” to be held in Madrid in January 2009; and lastly, the association will perform a legal and constitutional study on abortion and the right to life. A study team has also been formed in order to draft proposals for public support of the family both on a state and local level. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 2/7/2008)
