EUROPE/ITALY - Evangelization missions on the beach: 300 young people of the Missionary Community of Villaregia will preach the Gospel and collect supplies for the soup kitchens in Lima

Friday, 4 July 2008

Rome (Agenzia Fides) – “A Wave of Life” is the slogan for 2008’s evangelization missions on the beach, which will take place in the two well-known seaside resorts of Cesenatico and Terracina. The event will include 300 youth participants from the Missionary Community of Villaregia who will go out to the beaches and streets along the Adriatic Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea to invite people to visit certain supermarkets, in order to make a “missionary purchase” for the soup-kitchens of Lima, that feed thousands of children and families living in the poorest sections of the Peruvian capital. The youth will also invite other youth to participate in a missionary vigil on Saturday evening. The Church of “Santissimo Salvatore” in Terracina and “San Giacomo” in Cesenatico will remain open until 2 am with perpetual adoration during the night, during which there will be moments of prayer mixed with the singing of missionary songs, and priests will be available for Confessions.
The mission in Cesenatico will take place August 8-10 and the mission in Terracina will take place August 1-3. There will be events on the streets, games for children and young people, missionary displays, and perpetual adoration during the evening hours...all part of this second edition of the missionary event.
The Missionary Community of Villaregia (CMV) began in 1981. Since May 2002, it has been of Pontifical Right. Its members include men, women, and married couples who have consecrated their lives to God and the service of people in developing countries. They are currently 550 consecrated members and 15,000 adjoined members. The activities are mainly geared towards the evangelization of peoples who have not yet known of Christ or as a support to the newer Churches and human promotion. They also work on missionary activities in Italy, hoping to solicit support and solidarity with those who suffer and promoting a clear vision of human values, as the basis of society.
The CMV works in several Italian cities and in the poorest sections of many Latin American and African cities, such as: Belo Horizonte and Sao Paolo (Brasil), Lima (Peru), Mexico City (Mexico), Arecibo (Puerto Rico), and Abidjan (Ivory Coast). A new foundation is planned for Maputo (Mozambique). (SL) (Agenzia Fides 04/07/2008)
