ASIA/CHINA - Prayers and donations increase for China’s earthquake victims, drawing strength from the Holy Father’s prayer for the Day of Prayer for the Church in China

Beijing (Agenzia Fides) - There is an ever-increasing number of expressions of support from all over the world, not only from China, for the people suffering from the aftermath of the earthquake, and it comes simultaneously with the approaching of the first Day of Prayer for the Church in China, declared by the Pope to take place on May 24. According to information disclosed to Agenzia Fides, the priests of the Pontifical School of Saint Peter Apostle in Rome have offered the Mass, their prayers, and 890 Euros to the earthquake victims. The volunteers of Jinde Charities (Chinese Catholic chartiable organization), especially the religious sisters continue their relief services, offering a living testimony of faith. Bishop Li Lian Gui of Xian Xian and Vice-President of Jinde Charities, has been himself working in the earthquake-struck zone, along with Mr. Wolfgang Gerstner and Ms. Christina Grawe, of Caritas Germany. They have been able to collaborate in the Aid Center, providing 4,050 tents, which the victims were in urgent need of. The Diocese of Xing Tai has raised 40,000 Euros and celebrated Mass for the victims and survivors. The Dioceses of Chong Qiong, Shang Hai, Tai Yuan, Ji Nan, and Yan Zhou continue to pray for the victims and for the aid workers, while they raise funds for the earthquake victims.
