Melbourne (Agenzia Fides) - After the interactive Mother Mary MacKillop museum opened near Melbourne, to recall her biography and spirituality (see Fides 12/11/2007), a Blog has been opened in her memory www.mmkmelb.blogspot.com .
The Blog was started by 25 year old Catholic girl Dierdre Crocker, described by Sr Mary Ryan of the Sisters of St Jospeh of the Sacred Heart founded by Mother Mary MacKillop, “an enthusiastic estimator of Mary MacKillop; a young girl who uses her passion, energy and IT expertise in a most creative manner”, to meet the spiritual needs of many web surfers searching for a meaning to life.
Mary MacKillop (1842-1909), Australia's first Blessed and on the way to canonisation, has just been named with other saints and blessed, Patron of the 23rd Catholic World Youth Day in Sydney in July 2008. Dierdre said she hopes her Blog. a sort of cyber-mission, will draw more young people to take advantage of the extraordinary and enriching experience of a WYD.
A blog (a portmanteau of web log) is a website where entries are written in chronological order and commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs.
Blogs, increasingly popular in Asia and Oceania, are also used by bishops, priests and religious as a channel of evangelisation, especially among young Web surfers. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 16/11/2007 righe 27 parole 271)
