Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) - "Pentecost continues, Argentina listens and responds" is the theme of the 3rd National Mission Congress to be held 18 - 20 August in San Nicolás de los Arroyos, province of Buenos Aires. The principal aim of the Congress is to listen to the voice of the Spirit on how to be and to make disciples and missionaries of Jesus Christ in Argentina, for the evangelisation of the world. The Congress also aims to intensify missionary animation and cooperation in every diocese in the country; respond to the call to mission launched by the 5th General Conference of the Council of Bishops' Conferences of Latin America and the Caribbean in Aparecida; prepare the Church in Argentina's contribution to the American Mission Congress CAM 3 to be held in Quito (Ecuador) next year.
The Congress themes for reflection are in keeping with the themes of CAM 3: Pentecost: Community carried by the Spirit; Discipleship: Community, disciple of Jesus; Evangelisation: Missionary community for Humanity. Conferences will be given on the following: "Being Missionary Disciples", "Making Missionary Disciples". Dioceses may send as many as 15 delegates with a delegation leader and the diocesan missions director. The 15 delegates will include a missionary family, an animator, a child and an adolescent.
The 3rd National Mission Congress intends to achieve a balance of prayer, reflection, brotherhood and the celebration of the faith in view of concrete commitment to give new impulse to missionary activity on the part of the Church in Argentina, to strengthen bonds of communion among the dioceses and to encourage every diocese to open to mission ad gentes, as the Redemptoris Missio states.
