El Paso (Agenzia Fides) - "The Border Network for Human Rights and the residents of the border area are deeply disappointed at the decision taken by the International Boundary and Water Commission to remove the mega-sign '#Immigrant Lives Matter' placed by some members of the community on the side of boundary between the United States and Mexico, where Pope Francis will celebrate Mass on February 17" (see Fides 08/02/2016), is what the statement of this group says.
"The decision is clearly to suppress freedom of speech and therefore violate our own first amendment of the US Constitution. The Border Network for Human Rights disapproves of the actions taken so far by this authority, and asks to consider the fact that our organization has always followed the protocols established locally and obtained the necessary permits to place the sign, just as we did in the past", continues the text sent to Fides. In order to claim the right to freedom of speech, a press conference will be held today at 12 (local time) in Chamizal Park, where dozens of residents will gather to place the mega-sign again.
