Seoul (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Year of Mercy in Korea will be lived in the name of the young and martyrs. The Korean Church is preparing, in fact, a number of initiatives which have young people as protagonists.
As reported to Fides by the communications department of the Archdiocese of Seoul, on December 13 the Archbishop of Seoul, Cardinal Andrew Yeom Soo-jung will celebrate the Rite of the opening of the Door of Mercy in Myeongdong Cathedral. The Door is located on the right side of the building and has been adorned with a special decoration for the Jubilee.
In addition from December 15 to 17 the Cathedral of Seoul will be animated by a music Festival dedicated to young people, with the aim to "bring the joy of the Jubilee of Mercy to young Catholics and non-Catholics, through music", reads a note of the Archdiocese.
On December 18, the Archdiocese of Seoul will offer young Catholics and all the baptized a special opportunity to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation: in the morning 30 tents will be set up in the square in front of Myeongdong Cathedral, with priests ready to administer the Sacrament of Confession .
The Archdiocese of Seoul already launched in 2013 the "paths of pilgrimage", which connect the churches and holy places within the city.
During the Jubilee of Mercy, those who will make the pilgrimage to visit one of the holy places will be able to obtain the plenary indulgence.
A special opening of the Door of Mercy will also take place in the different Shrines of the Martyrs present in Korea. 2016 marks, in fact, the 150th anniversary of the persecution of Byeong-in (which took place in 1866), the deadliest persecution in the history of the Korean Catholic Church. To commemorate this event, on February 23 - the day when the persecution began - the doors of Mercy will open in several shrines dedicated to the martyrs that are related to the persecution: the sanctuary of Saenamteo, those in Seosomun and Jeoldusan, the church of Yakhyeon.
