Lahore (Agenzia Fides) – Saint Francis as a model for teaching correct relations between human persons and creation: in this spirit the Capuchin Friars of Pakistan organised in Lahore a St. Francis of Assisi and Nature Day, Fides was told by Father Francis Nadeem OFM Cap, provincial of the friars in Pakistan. Participants, religious men and women, priests and lay Catholics recalled the urgency of reconsidering life style and relations with creation, as Pope Francis asked in his Encyclical Laudato si’.
Father Morris Jalal OFM Cap, referring to the Encyclical, underlined that like Francis of Assisi , Pope Francis has demonstrated his love of nature with his call on world leaders to take urgent measures to protect the environment. After the celebration of Mass the participants planted trees in the garden of the Saint Mary High School in Lahore as a symbolic gesture of renewing the man-nature relationship. Lahore’s Archbishop Shaw, expressed his appreciation for the spirit of the Day, recalling that “God almighty created the universe. He loves all his creatures and following his teaching we too must love nature and all creatures”, encouraging a life style which is simple, essential and sustainable.
