AMERICA/EL SALVADOR - Over 3,000 children attend National HCA Meeting despite rain

Saturday, 5 June 2010

San Salvador (Agenzia Fides) – Saturday, May 29, at the auditorium of the Don Bosco Citadel in Soyapango, San Salvador hosted the IX National Meeting of the Pontifical Missionary Society of the Holy Childhood Association. The note on the celebration, sent to Fides by the Pontifical Mission Societies of El Salvador, recalls that every two years thousands of children and young missionaries come together from all over the country to share in their friendship with Jesus. In 2010, the goal of the children, adolescents, counselors, catechists, priests, religious, and laity, was the commitment to care and respect for creation. They also tried to share in what unites us: being missionary friends of Jesus and children of one Father, to become his witnesses.
The theme of the meeting was "We take care of the house that God the Father has given us!" with the slogan “Children and Adolescents in Action: Protect Creation.” The context of the meeting was inspired by the 2010 Message for Peace from Pope Benedict XVI: "If you want to cultivate peace, protect creation," where everyone, especially children and adolescents, the future generations, are now entrusted with protecting that which God has created for all humanity.
Despite the rain, there were about 3,000 children and adolescents of the eight dioceses in the country, with great joy that sang, prayed and reflected on this theme. The diocesan secretariats of the Holy Childhood of each diocese also prepared clothes made from recycled materials, to teach young children that many things we use every day can be recycled, and in particular, may be useful for evangelization. The meeting concluded with the celebration of a Holy Mass presided by Bishop Gregorio Rosa Chavez, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of San Salvador, who encouraged priests, responsible, religious, children, and adolescents to continue this good work to increase the number of Jesus' friends all over El Salvador.
