AFRICA/RWANDA - New rector appointed for St. Charles National Major Seminary in Nyakibanda

Vatican City (Fides Service) - Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples, on 10 February 2006 appointed Rector of St Charles national major Seminary in Nyakibanda, in the Diocese of Butare, Rev. Antoine Kambanda of the archdiocesan clergy of Kigali.
The new rector was born on 10 November 1958 in Rwanda, but soon afterwards he and his family moved to Kenya where he attended primary and secondary schools. On returning to Rwanda he studied at the propaedeutic major seminary in Rutongo, Kigali, (1983/84) and St. Charles National Seminary in Nyakibanda, Butare, (1984/90). He was ordained a priest on 8 September 1990 by Pope John Paul II, in Mbare, Kabgayi. From 1990 to 1993 he was studies prefect at St. Vincent minor seminary in Ndera, Kigali, he then studied for a doctorate in moral theology at the Alfonsiana Academy in Rome (1993/99). From 1999 to 2005 he ministered as follows: director of Kigali diocesan Caritas office, director of the diocesan development committee, head of the diocesan Justice and Peace commission, professor of moral theology and visitor at Nyakibanda major seminary.
