AMERICA/COLOMBIA - Appointment of the Apostolic Vicar of Mitù

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father, on November 23, 2013, appointed Rev. Fr. Medardo de Jesus Henao del Río, M.X.Y., Master of Novices of the Foreign Missions Institute of Yarumal as Apostolic Vicar of Mitu, Colombia, assigning him the titular see of Case mediane.
Rev. Fr. Medardo de Jesus Henao del Río, M.X.Y., was born on June 8, 1967 in Liborina, in the diocese of Santa Rosa de Osos (Antioquia). After attending elementary school in Liborina, he carried out his high school and philosophical studies at the St. Thomas Aquinas diocesan Seminary in Santa Rosa de Osos. He joined the Foreign Missions Institute of Yarumal on 1 February 1993. He was ordained a priest on December 4, 1999 in Medellí. He subsequently held the following pastoral and administrative positions: 2000: Missionary in the Parish of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Mitu; 2000-2002: Studies for the Licentiate in Theology at the Pontifical Javeriana University in Bogota; 2000-2006: Chancellor of the Apostolic Vicariate of Mitu and education Coordinator; 2007-2010: Deputy Master of Novices of the Foreign Missions Institute of Yarumal; since 2010: Master of Novices .
