EUROPE/ITALY - “We and the Bible”: Sunday 7 October 7 4th Festival to rediscover Sacred Scripture

Friday, 6 July 2007

Rome (Agenzia Fides) - A festival to rediscover Sacred Scripture will be held on Sunday 7 October (the Sunday nearest to the feast day of St Jerome, marked on 30 September, who translated the Bible into Latin). This will be the 4th education of 'We and the Bible' a Day of Reflection promoted by the "Drop by Drop" missionary formation group whose members are mainly young people, which is present in various dioceses in Italy.
The Day was started as a response to a call by the beloved Pope John Paul II on 27 July 2003, when he invited Catholics to rediscover the importance of the Bible. The first 'We and the Bible' Day was held on 26 September 2004, followed by similar events in 2005 and 2006. The initiative stems from the young people's experience of courses of formation in Summer Camps and various activities of mission animation. The group hopes to extend its activity all over the country involving parishes and religious communities, associations and Church movements to live this important time of rediscovering the importance of the Word.
A privileged way of living the day is a question and answer game called “The Path of the Bible”, invented by groups of missionaries in Latin America to encourage study of the Bible: each player has a Bible in his hand to search for the answer to the questions.
