AMERICA/VENEZUELA - Plenary assembly on 5th General Conference of the Council of Bishops' Conferences of Latin America and the Caribbean in Aparecida in the light of the Plenary Council of Venezuela

Caracas (Agenzia Fides) - The Bishops of Venezuela are meeting for the 88th plenary assembly 2-7 July. The event is a "opportunity to meet and fraternal sharing of the mission which the Lord Jesus, through his Church, entrusts to us at this beginning of the 21 century and the third Christian millennium ", said Bishop Ramón Viloria Pinzón of Puerto Cabello secretary general of the Bishops' Conference. The assembly will focus on CELAM 5 held in Aparecida in May; the conclusions of that continental meeting and the decisions taken at the national Plenary Council at the stage of implementation.
The bishops will reflect on the situation in the country and the challenges to be faced. "We will discuss in particular our duties as Bishops and the life of the Church". Bishop Ramón Viloria Pinzón said. Other issues for discussion "mission tithing", for a better distribution of clergy in the particular Churches; implementation of the council decision with regard to the National Pastoral Institute and preparation for Eucharistic and Missionary Congresses next year.
On Thursday 5 July the Assembly will have an “open session” to present the conclusions of 5th General Conference of the Council of Bishops' Conferences of Latin America and the Caribbean in Aparecida in view of their integration into the thematic whole of the Plenary Council of Venezuela. The session will be open to leaders of movements of apostolate, directors and coordinators of scholastic pastoral, priests, men and women religious and lay people. The day will begin with a report on the 5th General Conference of the Council of Bishops' Conferences of Latin America and the Caribbean in Aparecida by Cardinal Jorge Urosa Savino, Archbishop of Caracas, followed by a panel discussion on the final Document of Aparecida. In the afternoon various people will speak on the documents of the Plenary Council of Venezuela in relation to CELAM 5. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 4/7/2007- righe 28, parole 353)
