AFRICA/NIGERIA - The Pope appoints Auxiliary Bishop of Idah

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI on 28 June 2007 appointed Rev. Fr. Anthony Ademu Adaji, M.S.P., bursar of St. Paul’s Seminary in Abuja, Auxiliary Bishop of the diocese of Idah (Nigeria) assigning to him the Titular See of Turunda.
The Bishop elect Anthony Ademu Adaji, M.S.P., was born on 13 October 1964 at Ukpaba, Diocese of Idah, Kogi State, Nigeria. After attending local schools at Ogbagbala/Opolu and the secondary school Imperial Commercial College in Kaduna, for a while he worked in a factory. He then entered the seminary of the St Paul Missionaries MSP at Iperu for a year of spirituality and novitiate (1986-1988). He studied philosophy and theology at the MSP major seminary at Gwagwalada, Abuja from to 1995, and was ordained a priest on 1 July 1995. He is a member of St Paul's Missionary Society of Nigeria. Since his ordination he has ministered as follows: 1995 - 1996: seminary bursat; 1996 - 1997: parish priest of St Joseph's at San Iwere-ile, Oyo diocese; 1997 - 1999: pastoral service at St Augustine's parish, in Virginia, diocese of Kroonstad, South Africa; 1999 - 2001: Studies at Middlesex University in England for a Masters in theology; 2001 - 2006: bursar general of St Paul's Missionary Society.
