AFRICA/UGANDA - Project for “Better health conditions, HIV screening Prevention of Mother To Child Transmission ” in North East Uganda

Rome (Agenzia Fides) - A project launched on June 1 for ““Better health conditions, HIV screening and Prevention of Mother To Child Transmission”, in Abim, in the district of Karamoja, north east Uganda will conclude on 30 September.
The project was born of collaboration between Filo diretto onlus, which promotes, funds and monitors non profit projects and initiatives to help children in difficulty, and NGO Cesvi, a Italian humanitarian association present in 31 countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Balkan states.
The aim is to improve health conditions among the local people with mobile clinics for HIV screening and anti-AIDS therapy. This activity will be flanked by campaigns of awareness building and methods of prevention.
Two mobile clinics and specialised medical teams will guarantee prenatal assistance for 1,500 mothers with therapy for Prevention of Mother To Child Transmission, VCT - Voluntary Counseling and Testing. And awareness building and information campaigns with regard to HIV/AIDS will involve 14,800 people. (AP) (8/6/2007 Agenzia Fides; Righe:23; Parole:252)
