OCEANIA/PAPUA NEW GUINEA - The Pope appoints auxiliary Bishop of Kundiawa

Vatican City (Fides Service) - The Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI on 5 June 2007 appointed Auxiliary of the diocese of Kundiawa (Papua New Guinea), Rev. Anton Bal, until now vicar general of the same diocese, assigning to him the titular see of Tamalluma.
The Bishop elect Anton Bal was born on 29 November 1963 at Yuri, diocese di Kundiawa PNG. After primary and secondary school he entered St. Fidelis minor seminary in Madang. He then studied philosophy and theology at Holy Spirit Seminary, Bomana, Port Moresby. He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Kundiawa in 1991 and has since ministered as follows: 1991-1992: assistant priest at Yobai parish; 1993-1998: parish priest at Mai; 1999-2003: parish priest at Koge; a six month spiritual renewal course (July-December 2003) at the East Asian Pastoral Institute Manila, Philippines.
