UNITED NATIONS/WHO - 623 MILLION DOLLARS MORE TO FIGHT AIDS, TB AND MALARIA MAKING A TOTAL OF 2.1 BILLION DOLLARS DISTRIBUTED IN 125 COUNTRIES

Rome (Fides Service) – The Executive Committee of the Global Fund to eliminate AIDS Tuberculosis and Malaria has approved a subsidy of 623 million dollars for two-year programme to eliminate these three disease bringing the total sum to 2.1 billion dollars in125 countries. In less that two years the Global Fund has become the major force in fighting these three mortal illnesses.
About 60% of the funds approved will go to anti HIV/AIDS campaigns in Africa. The I 2.1 billion dollars are divided per region: 60% in Africa; 20% in Asia, Middle East and North Africa; 11% in Latin America e Caribbean; 9% in western Europe. By disease: 60% per HIV/AIDS; 23% for malaria; 17% for tuberculosis. Expenses are divided as follows: 46% per medicine and health care; 25% human sources and training; 15% for medical infrastructures; 5% scanning; 4% administration; 5% various. Receivers will be: 50% governments; 29% NGOs; 5% al private sector; 4% religious organisations; 3% patients; 3% academic institutions; 6% various.
