AFRICA/BENIN - National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies appointed

Vatican City (Fides Service) - Cardinal Ivan Dias,Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples, on 16 March 2007 appointed Rev Jacques Mahougnon Agossou of the diocesan clergy of Porto Novo National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Benin for a five year term (2007-2012).
The new National Director was born in Banigbé-gare on 21 October 1968. He attended minor seminary in Djimé (1983-86) and in Parakou (1986-1989), then propaedeutic seminary at Missérété (1989-90) and then studied philosophy and theology at St. Gall major seminary in Ouidah (1990-97). He was ordained a priest in 10 August 1997 at Porto Novo. He studied for a doctorate in Canon Law at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome (2000-2005). He has ministered in several parishes and taught Canon Law at Ouidah major seminary in 2005-2006. (S.L.) (Agenzia Fides 15/5/2007 - righe 12, parole 155)
