AFRICA/TANZANIA - New National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples on 14 February 2007 has appointed Rev. Michael M. Msonganzila of the archdiocese of Mwanza, national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Tanzania for a five year term (2007-2012).
The new national director was born at Ukiriguru, Mwanza, 17 July 1956. He was ordained a priest on 2 December 1984 in Mwanza. He studied at St. Mary’s Seminary Nyegezi, Mwanza (1971/1974) and St. Charles’ Seminary, Itaga of Tabora (1975/1976)l he studied philosophy at St. Anthony’s Major Seminary Ntungamo in Bukoba (1978/79) and theology at St. Paul’s Major Seminary Kipalapala in Tabora (1980/84). At the Urbaniana University in Rome (1990/91; 1993/94) he obtained a doctorate in Canon Law. Since his ordination he has ministered as follows: assistant priest in various parishes, teacher at Nyegezi minor Seminary in Mwanza, diocesan vocations director, vicar general, judicial vicar and Episcopal vicar for religious, teacher at St. Augustine’s Major Seminary Peramiho, archdiocese of Songea.
