Aparecida (Agenzia Fides) - Preparations continue for CELAM 5, the 5th General Conference of the Council of Latin American Bishops’ Conferences in Aparecida, Brazil, 13 to 31 May. The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, will travel to Brazil to open the Conference.
In Aparecida from 7 to 9 March various local work groups charged with preparing Pope Benedict XVI’s visit met with Vatican officials responsible for organising papal visits arrived from Rome. The organisers were taken to view the work at the site of the great outdoor opening Papal Mass at the Shrine of Aparecida on 13 May and the conference halls where the Bishops will work during the 19 day General Conference.
Two months ahead of CELAM 5, the Council of Latin American Bishops’ Conferences, has launched an on-line survey asking for ideas and suggestions in view of a great Continental Mission to follow the 5th General Conference in May. The suggestions and ideas will be examined by a team of Missiologists who will meet in Bogota, Colombia the week 19 -23 March to prepare a basic paper on the theme of mission to help the Bishops meeting in Aparecida to outline the programme for the Continental Mission. Ideas and suggestions must be registered before 18 March. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 12/3/2007; righe 16, parole 216)
