AFRICA/BURKINA FASO - New national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Burkina Faso e Niger

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples on 6 October 2006 appointed National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Burkina Faso and Niger for a five year term (2007-2012), Rev Oscar Zoungrana, a member of the clergy of the archdiocese of Koupéla.
The new national director was born in Rapadama, 14 April 1959. He attended various seminaries: minor seminary in Baskouré (1973/1978) Kossoghen intermediate seminary (1978/1981), Saint Jean Baptiste major seminary in Ouagadougou (1981/1983) and Koumi major seminary (1983/1988). He was ordained a priest on 9 July 1988 at Tenkodogo. He has since been: assistant priest at the cathedral parish in Koupéla and Holy Childhood animator (1988/1991), Koupéla diocesan high school chaplain (1991/1995). In August 1995 he went for further studies to Metz University in Germany obtaining a degree in Catholic Theology in 1998 and diplomas at Strasburg University, (DEA) (1998/1999) in practical theology and communications (DESU) in 1999. In September 1999 he was appointed parish priest at Saint Francis Xavier Tenkodogo parish and diocesan director of the Pontifical Mission Societies. (S.L.)
