AFRICA/NIGERIA - New rector for Saints Peter and Paul Inter-diocesan Seminary in Ibadan

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples on 8 September 2006, appointed rector of Saints Peter and Paul Inter-diocesan Seminary in the archdiocese of Ibadan (Nigeria), Rev. Michael Sunday Sasa of the diocesan clergy of Lokoja.
The new Rector was born on 4 October in 1952 at Kabba, in the Nigerian state of Kogi. He attended Saint Teresa minor seminary in Ibadan (1967/1971), and then went to Saints Peter and Paul Major Seminary in Ibadan (1972/1979). He was ordained a priest on 22 December 1979. He obtained a Doctorate in Philosophy at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome (1989/1993) and a P.G.D.E. at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma (Nigeria) (1999-2001). He has held the following positions: assistant priest and parish priest in various parishes, youth chaplain, diocesan director of the Pontifical Mission Societies, cathedral administrator, President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, chaplain to various women’s groups in the diocese and to the diocesan group of Catholic Renewal in the Spirit. Various duties in recent years at Saints Peter and Paul Seminary Ibadan and All Saints Seminary, Uhiele, Ekpoma. He has published several books and articles for local newspapers and magazines. (S.L.)
