AMERICA/GUATEMALA - Salesian Cooperator considered authentic witness of honesty and justice killed in ambush

Friday, 15 December 2006

Guatemala City (Agenzia Fides) - On 8 December 34 year old Johnny Morales, a Salesian Cooperator in Guatemala was killed in an ambush. Rev Stjepan Bolkovac, SDB, Central Delegate of the Association of Salesian Cooperators, told Fides that Johnny was on the way home when his car was ambushed and sprayed with gunfire. Johnny died of his wounds.
Johnny Morales and his wife, both Salesian Coooperators, collaborated with the Centro Salesian Fr. Sergio Checca in Guatemala. They had only been married a year. Johnny worked for the local tax office and two days before his death had agreed to move to work in Tecun Umam on the Mexican border an area of drug trafficking and smuggling. It seems he was killed because of his honesty. He had refused to be involved in illegal activity and was a fervent upholder of honesty and justice.
