Rome (Fides Service) - THE FUTURE MESSIAH
« For a child is born to us, a son is given us; upon his shoulder dominion rests. They name him Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero, Father-Forever, Prince of Peace. » (Isaiah 9, 5).
« But a shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse, and from his roots a bud shall blossom. The spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him: a spirit of wisdom and of understanding, A spirit of counsel and of strength, a spirit of knowledge and of fear of the Lord, » (Isaiah 11 1-2).
« The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me; He has sent me to bring glad tidings to the lowly, to heal the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and release to the prisoners « Isaiah 61, 1)
« 'I saw the Spirit come down on him like a dove from heaven and rest on him» (John 1, 32) John the Baptist says.
Jesus visits Nazareth and reads the following passage of Isaiah (61,1) and attiributes its to himself : « The spirit of the Lord is on me, for he has anointed me to bring the good news to the afflicted.
