EUROPE/ITALY - 120 Benedictine nuns from all over the world are taking part in an international symposium on “Guiding with Wisdom”: the Benedictine rule in the light of the Beatitudes

Friday, 8 September 2006

Rome (Agenzia Fides) - The S. Anselmo Pontifical Liturgical Institute is hosting the 5th international symposium of the Communio Internationalis Benedictinarum CIB on the theme “Guiding with wisdom... so that the strong are challenged and the feeble are not overwhelmed” (RB 64:19). The120 Benedictine nuns from all over the world who have come to reflect and study together, will accompany with their prayers Pope Benedict XVI on his apostolic visit to Bavaria.
The Communio Internationalis Benedictinarum CIB was formed in November 2001 at the end of a consultation among all the Benedictine Convents of the world. The CIB comprises every Benedictine community in the world recognised as such by the Abbot Primate and listed in the Catalogus Monasteriorum O.S.B.
During the Symposium the nuns will listen to the teaching of Holy Scripture and of Saint Benedict, to share and discuss reflections, to pray together and share lectio divina and monastic life. They will go on pilgrimage to Norcia retracing the footsteps of St Benedict and St Scolastic. Aware that the world today is to a great extent ruled by money and power, the Benedictine Sisters wish to re-propose in a way suited to the times the teaching of Jesus Christ who proposed the Beatitudes as a rule of life: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs in the Kingdom of Heaven …” (Mt 5,3).
