ASIA/HONG KONG - Sisters of the Precious Blood SPB celebrate 25 and 50 years of religious profession with renewed mission commitment

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) - Recently the Sisters of the Precious Blood SPB, a Hong Kong diocesan community, celebrated 25 and 50 years of religious profession and also lay membership of the Association of the Friends of the Precious Blood. Addressing those present for the occasion Rev. Edward khong Kin Cheung said “the Blood of Christ, blood of the new Covenant, achieved the reconciliation of the divine and the human, enabling us to become children of God. The Congregation of the Sisters of the Precious Blood have the task of passing on this message”. The diocesan bulletin Kong Ko Bao reports that 7 Sisters celebrating 50 of religious life and one who had completed 25 years renewed their vows in front of the Superior general. The Sisters also shared their experience with those present stressing the community spirit of communion, love and unity in the spirituality of the Cross. The celebrations included a special mass presided by the Bishop of Hong Kong, Cardinal Joseph Zen and a display of dancing and singing by pupils at schools run by the SPB.
The Congregation of the Sisters of the Precious Blood (SPB) was established in 1922. The sisters are involved in missionary work, teaching, healthcare and social work, with special focus on evangelising in China. Today there are 80 SPB sisters and one novice working in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macao and in other countries. During their general chapter last year, 27 July - 9 the Sisters identified urgent challenges: formation, vocations, meeting the needs of the Church and society in the 21st century, the spirituality of the cross lived in service of the poor and the excluded.
