Tuesday, 13 June 2006

Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) - “From Vatican II to New Evangelisation” is the theme of a refresher course in theology for priests to be held 3-7 July in Mexico City. The year 2005 was important for the universal Church with various events: 40 years since the end of the Second Vatican Council, the end of the pontificate of John Paul II and the beginning of the pontificate of Benedict XVI, both pontificates marked by the Council desire to start new evangelisation in the world today, starting with a Church renewed in her fundamental aspects. One of the main tools for this renewal is the Catechism of the Catholic Church which has been given new impulse with the recently issued Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. These points indicate the importance of the course for priests.
The Course will take place at the Catholic Bishops’ Conference offices in Mexico City and will be inaugurated by Bishop Benjamín Castillo Plascencia of Tabasco diocese who is president of the Bishops’ Commission for Evangelisation and Catechesis. Dr. Juan Luis Lorda will speak about the legacy of Vatican II and present day challenges, resources, challenges of new evangelisation. Dr. Ramiro Pelletero will illustrate the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and catechesis for new evangelisation. Dr. Juan Gustavo Ruíz will reflect on Christian Truth in the universe of world religions. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 13/6/2006; righe 18, parole 250)
