Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) - “On Sunday 11 June with the Annual Collection we will call for a gesture of concrete solidarity which at the same time will increase awareness of the need to work to assure that no one is excluded” said Bishop Fernando María Bargalló of the diocese of Merlo-Moreno who is president of the Argentinean Bishops’ Commission for Caritas Argentina, in a message for Caritas Argentina Annual Collection with the slogan this year “For a Society Free of Exclusion and Poverty”.
Despite many efforts to fight poverty, “much remains to be done”, Bishop Fernando says in the message “The social exclusion of so many of our brothers calls us not to be resigned to this situation we must revise our personal attitudes in harmony with the social programme we are trying to sustain and build”.
The Bishop says “Many families cannot find daily food or pay for schooling for the children, of find a stable job in conditions compatible with their worker’s dignity”. He says this is the social responsibility of all. “We must not sleep, we must show solidarity and continue to build relations of justice, brotherhood, cooperation to promote equal development and reduce the divide between those who have many goods and opportunities and those who have none and struggle merely to survive”. The message recalls that “without justice, charity is in danger of being illusory and eve false”. Therefore, we read in the message, since this year Caritas Argentina marks its 50th anniversary, “we are called to renew our conviction, choosing as the theme for the annual collection: ‘For a society free of exclusion and poverty.” (RG) (Agenzia Fides 6/6/2006; righe 21, parole 295)
