Monday, 5 June 2006

Rome (Agenzia Fides) - “Youth and Family” was the title of a Meeting held at the Pontifical College Regina Apostolorum, in Rome, organised by the Legionaries of Christ and the Regnum Christi Movement.
The slogan "Light the Fire of His Love!", was a call to live and spread with fidelity and enthusiasm the charisma God gave to the Movement: know, live and share the Love of Jesus.
Several thousand Regnum Christi members, individuals and families, from all over the world came together to listen to conferences, to pray and take part in open air sports and games.
The purpose of the event was to prepare to take part in the 2nd Meeting of Church Movements and new Communities with the Pope in St Peter’s Square in the evening of June 3.
The Regnum Christi Movement has about 65,000 members all over the world. During the meeting in Rome members of different groups presented various different activities of apostolate particularly to help the needy.
The appointments included: the recitation of the Rosary at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the presentation of the book “Legionaries of Christ. Foundation and History”. The volume is a journey into the congregation founded in 1941, present today in America, Europe and Oceania in 20 different countries. Its members are 650 priests and about 2,500 seminarians preparing for the priesthood.
On Friday 2 June the members of Regnum Christi gathered for prayer at St Paul’s Basilica. On Saturday morning again in St Paul’s 54 Legionaries of Christ deacons were ordained by Archbishop Paolo Romeo, Apostolic Nuncio to Italy.
The deacons, due to be ordained as priests in December this year, come from Brazil, Canada, Chile, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Mexico and the United States. Since entering the novitiate, these men have completed an average ten years of study, apostolate and mission. (AP) (5/6/2006 Agenzia Fides; Righe:32; Parole:356)
