AMERICA/CHILE - “Catechists: we announce the Living Christ”: Catechists Day because only the announcement of the Living Christ can meet the deepest longings of the human heart and mind

Saturday, 20 May 2006

Santiago (Fides Service) - On Saturday 27 May Catholics in Chile will celebrate annual Catechists Day organised by the Chilean Bishops’ Commission for Catechesis. The Day is an opportunity to thank the Lord for calling educators in the faith and to confirm commitment to grow in this service. The slogan chosen this year is slogan “Catechists: we announce the Living Christ”. In the invitation sent to Catechists signed by Fr José Carraro director of the national catechesis commission we read "to face present day difficulties the Bishops urge us to intensify the Proclamation of the Living Christ as the only true Saviour, the One who meets the deepest longings of the human mind and heart”.
Furthermore “it is urgent to announce the living Christ with the courage and enthusiasm of the first disciples of the Lord, so that people welcome Him with faith and become faithful disciples and enthusiastic missionaries”. The programme this year aims to underline that the message offered by catechists is nothing other than Jesus, but the message must not be simply communicated it must be proclaimed with joy. Furthermore this Jesus announced by catechists was not only a great personality in the past He is alive and present among us today.
For the celebration of the Day the National Commission for Catechesis has issued special print material to guide reflection and community celebrations: suggestions for celebrating the day, an example of a special Mass and various documents for work and reflection.
