AMERICA/BRAZIL - “The Eucharist: life of the community and source of mission”: slogan 1st Diocesan Eucharistic Congress in archdiocese of Mariana organised to mark the diocese’s 100th anniversary and in preparation for the National Eucharistic Congress

Mariana (Fides Service) - As part of celebrations to mark the 100th anniversary of the archdiocese of Mariana in Brazil the 1st Diocesan Eucharistic Congress is being held 26 - 29 April in the town of Conselheiro Lafaiete, with the slogan “The Eucharist: life of the community and source of mission”. The Congress programme includes conferences, discussion in theme groups, activities for Congress participants. Daily evening Mass and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is open to the general public. The main event of the Congress will be a special Mass at Sacred Heart Basilica on 29 April which will also be the 30th anniversary of the ordination as Bishop of Archbishop Luciano Pedro Mendes di Almeida of Mariana. Parishes and individual Catholics have been invited to take part in this moment of celebration and gratitude.
Papers given during the Congress include: "Eucharist: mystery of faith" (P. Lauro Sérgio Versiani Barbosa); "Eucharist and Community" (Fr Paulo Dione Quintão); "Eucharist: service and mission" (Rev. Luciano Mendes di Almeida); "Maria and the Eucharist"(Fr. Luis Antônio Ridete Costa); "Eucharist and reconciliation" (Fr. Celso Murilo Souza Ridete).
1st Eucharistic Congress of Mariana was also organised in preparation for the 15th National Eucharistic Congress to he held in Florianopolis 18 to 21 May.
