Rome (Agenzia Fides) - "No one chooses to find themselves under the bombs of war, regardless of where they live, the color of their skin, whether they are a man, a woman or a child. As Scalabrinian Missionaries of Europe and Africa, we have always been sensitive to the many conflicts that still take place in the world. In our projects and missions, we commit ourselves every day to offer our support to the victims of every human exodus, to the many migrants and refugees fleeing poverty, persecution, war, despair". So write the Scalabrinian missionaries who announce their support for people fleeing the war in Ukraine, whatever their nationality. SIMN Europe Africa, through the Scalabrinian Agency for Development Cooperation (ASCS), is launching #WeCareForUkraine, a "fundraising and awareness-raising campaign that wants to give a concrete response to this dramatic situation that is disrupting the lives of millions of people". After Russia, Ukraine is the largest country in Europe, says ASCS, with a population of 44 million and two main ethnic groups: 77.8% Ukrainians and 17.3% Russians. Ukraine has seen four major waves of migration out of the country, from the first, which began in 1860, to the last, which followed the fall of the Soviet Union. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 9/3/2022)
