AFRICA/GHANA - New National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies

Vatican City (Fides Service) - Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples on 3 March 2006 appointed National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Ghana for a five year term (2006-2011), Rev. John Addae-Boateng of the clergy of the diocese of Sunyani.
The new national director was born at Abesim-Sunyani on 19 April 1954. After school he went to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi obtaining a degree in 1981. In 1982 he entered St. Peter’s Regional Seminary di Pedu-Cape Coast (1982/1987). In 1997 he studied for an MA in Education at KNUST and in 2001 a doctorate in the same subject. He was ordained a priest on 1st August 1987 at Christ the King Cathedral in Sunyani. He has since been: chaplain, tutor, teacher at St. Joseph Training College, Bechem; member(1987/1994) president (1994/2004) of the diocesan Liturgy Commission; diocesan director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (1994/2004); diocesan Legion of Mary spiritual director (1990/2004); religious education coordinator at Sunyani (1997/2004); ministry at St. Joseph’s church and SSpS Formation House in Dumasua (1998/2004); chaplain to the diocesan lay council (1999-2004); assistant priest at St. Augustine church, Highland, New York (USA) (2004/2005).
