Wednesday, 22 March 2006

Rome (Fides Service)- “It is difficult to live in a place where there is no water, or electricity, or medical care. Linguaglossa has begun to walk alongside with the mission district of Amborompotsy and on behalf of all the children and poor people I say: thank you! We look forward to seeing you in Madagascar” said Sr Vittoria a member of the Missionary Sisters of Mercy of Carini (Palermo) during a ceremony for the signing of a twinning project between the town of Linguaglossa, at the foot of Mt Etna, in Sicily and the Catholic Mission in the mission district of Amborompotsy of the diocese of Ambositra (Madagascar).
After Mass celebrated in the parish church of San Rocco presided by Bishop Pio Vigo of Acireale, the agreement was signed and the Bishop handed to Sr Vittoria, a first sum of 7,000 Euro consisting of donations from administrators, parish offerings and collections taken in schools of all grades and contributions from individual citizens.
The money will go towards digging a well and installation of a water pipe and aqueduct of clean water, a school with three class rooms and a resident nurse. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 22/3/2006 righe 21 parole 228)
