AFRICA/DR CONGO - Cardinal Etsou asks Catholics to support Kinshasa Catholic Radio and Television project: valuable and powerful means for necessary new evangelisation

Kinshasa (Fides Service)- The Archbishop of Kinshasa, Cardinal Frédéric Etsou has said that the country has urgent need of a Catholic Radio and Television station to face the present crisis in values, growing relativism and spreading pseudo religious groups. “A Catholic Radio and Television station is urgent and necessary” the Cardinal said in a Lenten Message addressed to the people of his diocese. In the face of spreading pseudo religious groups and movements, a concerning crisis of values in society, relativism and many threats to the Catholic faith a Catholic Radio and Television station represents a powerful means for strengthening our people in their faith and promoting the development and wellbeing of all society the Cardinal said.
The Cardinal recalls that ‘A dollar for A Catholic Television Station’ campaign launched in July 2003 we collected 100,000 US dollars. The necessary permission was obtained and the technical team charged with the project has finalised the statutes of the future Kinshasa Catholic Radio Television KCRT . Now in view of Lent 2006 the Cardinal said he welcomes the decision reached by men and women Catholic Religious in Kinshasa to back the project and calls on Catholics and all men and women of good will to collect the rest of the funds necessary to complete the KCRT project
The Archbishop of Kinshasa encourages clergy and laity to meditate on the teaching of Pope Benedict XVI first encyclical Deus Caritas Est “which helps us understand better the mystery of God and his passionate love for mankind whom he forgives and saves”.
