Port Moresby (Agenzia Fides) - "We must strengthen our Catholic faith and prepare lay people, priests and religious to be new evangelizers", said Father Victor Roche svd, Secretary of the Commission for New Evangelization, at a meeting held on 22nd June at the St. Josephs parish of Boroko, on the "new evangelization", presenting the "Kerygma Program", a path that intends to involve dioceses, parishes, associations, local communities, in a renewed announcement of the Word of God.
In his intervention sent to Agenzia Fides, Fr. Victor, who is also the National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies of Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, focused in particular on the definition of "new evangelization". The Secretary General underlined the need for renewed ardor, new methods and expressions that can feed the new evangelization. "We can ask ourselves: what can we do to make a difference", said Fr. Victor after presenting the "Kerygma Program, coordinated plan for the "new evangelization", which will be examined and discussed during the annual General Assembly of Bishops, for approval, before it is shared with the dioceses.
Among the participants, over a hundred people, included: Mgr. Otto Separy, bishop of Bereina and of the Commission for evangelization, and his deputy, Mgr. Rolando Santos, bishop of Alotau-Sideia, who together with the laity, members of the Association of Catholic Professionals, seminarians and parishioners of St. Josephs addressed issues on the pastoral aspects and perspectives of the Catholic Church, the challenges and possible paths.
