ASIA/INDIA - In April a new home for orphan girls “Casa de las Niñas”

Rome (Agenzia Fides) - A Brick for Calcutta (Un ladrillo en Calcuta) is the name of a project launched by a Spanish volunteer with the Sisters of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, Missionaries of Charity.
The plan is to build a home to provide school instruction and all round education for 30 little girls who have been abandoned.
The Casa de las Niñas, which should be ready for opening in April, is a sister project of a Boys Home opened in 2005 in Thakurpukur just outside Calcutta. The Home has 11 boys aged 5 to 11 who play in the playground in between lessons. Some are orphans, others are from families which simply cannot feed and keep them.
These homes are only two of many centres run by the Missionaries of Charity founded in 1950 to alleviate the sufferings of the poorest of the poor in this nosy polluted city and in many other parts of the world. (AP) (16/2/2006 Agenzia Fides; Righe:16; Parole:180)
