Rome (Fides Service) - Delegates from 22 Asian-Pacific countries are in Thailand for a meeting on HIV/AIDS to elaborate plans to help more HIV+ persons access proper therapy and treatment.
The three day meeting in Pattaya, which started on 14 February, is one of seven regional meetings sponsored by the UNAIDS programme.
About 200 delegates mostly representatives of NGOs are taking part.
In 2005 over three million people died of AIDS, including 500,000 children. According to the World Health Organisation, last year five million new cases of infection from the HIV/AIDS virus were registered in the world, and there are about 40.3 million people carry the infection.
