AMERICA/HONDURAS - New national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies

Vatican City (Fides Service) - Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples on 5 January 2006 appointed national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Honduras for a five year term (2006-2011), Bishop Raul Corriveau, PME, emeritus Bishop of Choluteca.
The new national director was born in Buckland, Quebec (Canada) 27 June 1930. He studied for the priesthood at the major seminary of the Society for Foreign Missions of the Province of Quebec (PME). He was ordained a priest on 1 July 1956. He ministered in Cuba from 1957 to 1967, in diverse parishes and Nunciature Secretary. From 1967 to 1975 he was in Canada as PME Vicar general and Master and educator of adults. From 1975 he ministered in Honduras, in the diocese of Choluteca, where he was Vicar general, coadjutor Bishop (ordained 8 December 1980), diocesan Bishop (1984) until he retired on 17 December 2005). While diocesan bishop he ordained 23 priests and promoted numerous apostolic initiatives (diocesan synod, centre for ongoing adult formation, retreat centre, diocesan newsletter…) he also served as head of various commissions of the Honduran Bishops’ Conference of which he was also secretary general (1988/1992) and president (1993/1996).
