Caracas (Fides Service) - “Towards integral humanism of solidarity” is the title of the 6th National Laity Congress to be held 9 to 12 February at the UTAL building in S. Antonio de Los Altos. The aim of the congress is to view the present situation in Venezuela in the light of the Gospel and Catholic Social Doctrine to help lay people, according to their state of life, assume Christian attitudes and propose Christian solutions to problems in society. The Congress is organised by the National Laity Council and will involve Catholics all over the country.
The Catholic Bishops of Venezuela who held a plenary assembly in early January said they are confident the event will “give new impulse to lay people in their desire to play a leading role in new evangelisation and to build society with coherent witness and actions in family life, professional life, public life”.
In preparation for the congress a series of workshops were organised on the following themes: Christian Leadership; Social Doctrine of the Catholic Church; Human Rights; Poverty and human promotion. The organisers expect a large number of participants from all walks of life and representing many different dioceses and Church movements. Conferences include: “From the Venezuelan reality towards Christian humanism”; “Human reality illuminated by Faith” (Faith-culture, Faith -economy, Faith -politics); “work, culture and solidarity: the path to eliminate poverty”; “integral human development”.
